Make an Accordion Book of Customs and Traditions

 California Standard 1.5 Students describe the human characteristics of familiar places and the varied backgrounds of American citizens and residents in those places.

Materials: 1 large piece paper, crayons or markers, pen or pencil

 

1. Take a look at the traditions and history of holidays. Choose a tradition your family looks forward to celebrating.

 
 

2. Make an Accordion book of Customs and Traditions. Have your teacher help you fold the paper into a book.
 
 

3. Place the paper in front of you horizontally. Fold it in half. Then fold the top page in half by folding it back to meet the fold.
 
 

4. Turn the paper over. Fold the top page in half by bringing it back to meet the fold. The accordion is made.
 
 

5. Now write a story of your favorite tradition. Draw a picture of one of your family's favorite traditions in the different parts of your book.
