Big Idea: Why do people live in neighborhoods?

My Neighborhood Map

California Standard K.4 Students compare and contrast the locations of people, places, and environments and describe their characteristics.

Materials: Crayons and printout of California State Map

 

1. Print the California state map. California Map

 
 

2. Have someone help you find where your neighborhood is on the state map. Put a RED dot on that place.

 
 

3. On your map, color the ocean BLUE. Draw some mountains on your map. Color them BROWN.

 
 

4. Put some trees on your map. Color them GREEN. Put a desert on your map. Color it YELLOW.

 
 

5. Make a map of your neighborhood on the back of your California map. You can show your street, your house, and other places, too.
