Mary Leakey

California Standard 6.1 Students describe what is known through archaeological studies of the early physical and cultural development of humankind from the Paleolithic era to the agricultural revolution.

As a girl, Mary Leakey was interested in art and in fossils. Although she was born in England, she spent many years of her childhood in France.

There, she saw cave paintings that were made by prehistoric people and visited archaeological digs. Through these experiences, she became interested in the people who lived long ago.
