Big Idea: How do we learn about geography?

Color a World Map

California Standard 1.2 Students compare and contrast the absolute and relative locations of places and people and describe the physical and/ or human characteristics of places.

Materials: Crayon or markers, pen or pencil, printout of world map

1. Print the world map.

2. Visit an interactive world map. Can you find Asia? Australia?

3. On your map, color the oceans BLUE.

4. Trace each of the seven continents in its own color. DO NOT use blue. Use the interactive map to check your work.

5. Find California on the world map. First find the United States. Then select California. Draw a house on the map to show where California is. Use pen or pencil to make the house tiny.
