Unit 2: The United States: It's Land and People

The geography and climate of the United States is as different as its history and its people. Landforms vary from rugged mountains to tropical islands to fertile farmlands to arid deserts. The five regions of the United States include The Northeast, the Southeast, the Southwest, the Midwest, and the West. Each region depends on other regions to share resources. The five regions have unique geographies, cultures, and economies. The economy of the United States has roots in the democratic government founded early in America's history. Businesses can specialize to provide specific goods and services. The free enterprise system and business resources help businesses experience a profit and establish credit, which helps the economy.

The democratic government in the United States is run by its people. The United States government includes the executive branch, the legislative branch, and the judicial branch. There are also tribal governments on Native American reservations. The United States Constitution established rights and freedoms for Americans to have a say in how the nation is governed. Patriotism and standing up for fairness and justice are democratic values that Americans respect.
