Unit 2: Canada, Our Northern Neighbor Canada is the second-largest country in the world. Canada's rich natural resources create jobs in lumbering, farming, mining, and fishing. Many Canadians also have jobs in manufacturing. In the 1500s Canada was controlled by the French. In the 1600s the English gained control of Canada. In 1931 Canada could make its own laws for the first time. In 1982 Canada had its own independent constitution. Today, Canada is an independent country of ten provinces and three territories. |
