Life in a Fishing Community
Ine is a fishing community on a peninsula in Japan. Japan is an island country off the coast of the continent of Asia. An island is land completely surrounded by water. Many animals, including fish, seals, and turtles, live in the sea round Ine.

Rich in Wildlife
Many kinds of fish and fish-eating animals live in the water surrounding Ine. Many people in Ine make a living fishing. The community protects its wildlife in a land and water reserve. Every year many visitors from around the world tour the area to see the variety of wild animals and plants there.

Caring for Our Resources
Overfishing and garbage left in the ocean are harming Ine's wildlife. People are working to protect their environment by passing laws against pollution, improving factory machinery, and making safer fishing nets.
